Auroville Sightseeing: What to See Near Art Le Stay
Staying at Art Le Stay puts you right at the edge of Auroville, minutes from the township's main sights and an easy drive from Pondicherry. Here's what most guests end up visiting during their stay.
Matrimandir
A golden, spherical meditation structure at the heart of the township, surrounded by twelve gardens. The inner chamber is reserved for Aurovillians, but a free viewing pass (booked a day ahead at the Visitor Centre) gets you to a viewpoint with a clear look at the structure.
Auroville Visitor Centre
The natural starting point for any visit. There's a short introductory film about Auroville's history, a bookshop, handicraft outlets, and a few relaxed cafes. Matrimandir viewing passes are issued here.
Auroville Bakery
Known for fresh bread, cheesecakes, and dairy made from Auroville's own farms, with outdoor seating in a garden setting. A good breakfast or coffee stop before or after Matrimandir.
Serenity Beach & Auroville Beach
Two of the area's most-loved beaches. Serenity Beach is popular with surfers, while Auroville Beach offers a quieter stretch of sand. Both are a nice way to end a day of sightseeing.
Bharat Niwas
Houses a permanent exhibition on Auroville's history and philosophy, alongside handicraft shops worth browsing.
Workshops & wellness sessions
Auroville regularly hosts yoga, meditation, and organic farming sessions open to visitors. The Visitor Centre notice board is the best place to see what's on during your stay.
