French Quarter (White Town)
Tree-lined streets named after French officials, pastel-coloured colonial villas, wrought-iron balconies, and plenty of cafes and boutiques. Best explored slowly, on foot or by rented cycle.
Promenade Beach (Rock Beach)
A seafront stretch lined with statues and monuments, popular for sunrise and sunset walks. The Gandhi statue and war memorial sit along this stretch.
Sri Aurobindo Ashram
Founded by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother — the same figures central to Auroville's founding — this is a quiet, contemplative space open to visitors.
Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
A striking church with stained-glass panels depicting the life of Jesus — both a pilgrimage site and an architectural landmark.
Manakula Vinayagar Temple
A working Ganesh temple in the middle of the French Quarter — one of the older religious sites in the city.

Goubert Market
A lively local market for spices, fresh seafood, and traditional sweets — a good stop if you want a taste of everyday Pondicherry away from the tourist streets.
